Piedmont International University is pleased to welcome Spurgeon Baptist Bible College as the first school to partner with PIU. In 2003, when the merger took place, it would have been impossible to look into the future and know that other great schools would also join with Piedmont. As time would reveal, other great schools did follow. As others joined together with PIU, it became clear they were forming what is now called the Piedmont International University network of schools.
Spurgeon definitely holds a significant place of honor at Piedmont because it was the first school to join with them in a merger. But most important, as a direct result of the two schools coming together, was the creation of the Spurgeon School of Online Education. Through this online offering, Christian leaders all over the world are gaining access to quality education and ministry training as the Spurgeon Online School continues to grow. Thousands of class hours are being taken through this school.
Spurgeon Baptist Bible College was established in 1970 in Lakeland, Florida and was created for the purpose of training preachers and missionaries to preach the word, defend the faith and to build the work of God. Dr. G. Arthur Woolsey of Sebring, a graduate of Baptist Bible Seminary, was the first President of Spurgeon and in April 1972 under his leadership the school was able to acquire a beautiful 33 acre campus just outside of Mulberry Florida. This provided a spacious, beautiful setting for the school.
Piedmont is delighted to welcome Spurgeon Baptist Bible College and we look forward to continuing to train Christian leaders together through the Spurgeon Online School. Together we will prepare students to preach the word, defend the faith and to build the work of God.
In honor of the Spurgeon Baptist Bible College Legacy, Piedmont International University will offer all Spurgeon Baptist College alumni and their families a generous scholarship when they continue education at Piedmont International University.
